T.C. Constantinidis, MD, PhD, is an Occupational and Environmental Specialist. He is Professor in the Department of Medicine, Democritus University of Thrace (DUTH), Dean of the School of Health Sciences, DUTH. Director of the Laboratory of Hygiene and Environmental Protection in Medical Staff of DUTH and Occupational Physician of DUTH, Director of the Laboratory of Hygiene and Environmental Protection of the University General Hospital of Alexandroupolis (PGNA) and Occupational Physician of PGNA. Provides work at the Laboratory of Social Medicine (Director: Professor E. Nena, MD, PhD). Scientific Coordinator and Director of the Occupational Health and Safety Graduate Program (MSc OHS). Scientific Coordinator and Director of the Postgraduate Program Primary Health Care, Social Medicine and Pharmaceutical Care (MSc PHC). Training Coordinator for the Occupational and Environmental Medicine Specialty at PGNA. Scientific Coordinator (together with Professor A. Benos, MD, PhD, and Professor V. Makropoulos, MD, PhD,) of Theoretical Training of Residents in Occupational and Environmental Medicine in Northern Greece, Thessaloniki. Vice-President of Ethical Committee of Research of DUTH. He was Scientific Coordinator of the Regional Public Health Laboratory of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace, Greece, President and General Director of the Hellenic Institute of Occupational Health and Safety, President of the Hellenic Society of Occupational and Environmental Medicine, President of the Permanent Committee of Heavy and Unhealthy Occupations, Member of the National Council of Public Health and President of the Examinations Committee for the Award of Occupational Medicine Specialty. Scientific Responsible for more than 125 Research Projects. Professor Eugenia BEZIRTZOGLOU attended Biochemistry at the University of Lille (France), Hematology and Parasitology at the Medical School of Lille (France). She continued her education by obtaining a Medical Degree, a PhD Thesis (Universite Paris-Sud) and an Habilitation Degree (Universite Paris-Sud). As Medical Doctor she is specialized in Microbiology (Biopathology), Clinical Chemistry and Public Health. Furthermore, she completed her scientific knowledge by post-education studies in the Laboratory of Gastrointestinal Microbial Ecology at Karolinska Institutet and at the Reference Laboratory of Anaerobic Bacteria at UCLA, Los Angeles, USA. She has published more than 200 international publications, 20 chapters in books and 3 books. She is often invited to participate in International Committees (ECDC section enteric pathogens, European evaluation programs, PhD Thesis, University and Institute’s Certifications). Currently, she is full Professor in Microbiology and Microbial Ecology at the Laboratory of Hygiene and Environmental Protection at Democritus University of Thrace. She was Head of the Department of Agricultural Development and also Director of 3 Laboratories. Her main fields of interest include microbial ecology, human microbiota, gastrointestinal microflora, food and environmental microbiology, hygiene and public health. Her credentials are h-index 35 and 5732 citations and appears in the top 2 % of Stanford’s University list world scientists for its importance and impact. Dr. Evangelia Nena is an Associate Professor of Public Hygiene / Social and Occupational Medicine and Director of the Laboratory of Social Medicine at the Medical School of the Democritus University of Thrace, where she teaches at undergraduate and graduate levels. She is also affiliated with the Laboratory of Hygiene and Environmental Protection of the same Institution. Dr Nena is board certified by the Hellenic Medical Association in Occupational Medicine and in Public Health – Social Medicine She currently enumerates 116 PubMed- indexed publications, >200 studies presented in scientific conferences and is also the author of 10 medical book chapters. She is Associate Editor of the Archives of Environmental and Occupational Health (Taylor & Francis Eds) journal, and also a member of the Editorial Board of 3 other scientific journals. She participates in European scientific networks (OMEGA-NET, BURDEN-EU) and in nationally (Greek)- or EU- funded research projects, as well as in consulting committees/boards of the Hellenic Ministry of Health. CHRISTINA TSIGALOU, MD, PhD is a Medical Microbiologist –Biopathologist, Assoc Professor in Medical Microbiology-Immunology in Democritus University of Thrace. I have for over 25 years clinical work in University General Hospital of Alexandroupolis. I received my MD and Ph.D from the same University. My special interests is in Autoimmunity, Diagnostic Immunology and Clinical Chemistry (Biochemistry), Microbiology and Laboratory Medicine. I led staff in two teams of specialty trainees and laboratory technicians. I have participated in congresses, seminars of my specialty and of others as a member of organizing or scientific committee, as a speaker or president and in multicenter studies that have been conducted in our hospital and others. I was also professor in Nursing Department at the High Technical Education Institute of East Macedonia and Thrace and I teach in many post graduate courses in our Medical school and in others as well. I am also vice Director in a new Post Graduate Course of our university. I perform reviews for national and international scientific journals, published articles in peer-reviewed journals and I am member in Greek and international scientific societies. Dr Christos Kontogiorgis, is an Assistant Professor of Hygiene at the Medical School, Democritus University of Thrace, Alexandroupolis, Greece. He is Pharmacist, with PhD on Natural Occurring Products with possible impact on Public Health. He teaches Medical School students both at undergraduate and at post-graduate level. He has recently co-organized the Postgraduate Course «Primary Health Care”. He was supervisor in a PhD thesis and in more than twenty postgraduate theses and now he is supervisor of five PhD Students. He has organized the first research group of Pharmacoepidemiology in Greece and he is the coordinator of the National Symposium on Pharmacoepidemiology. He is representative of Greece in ENCePP and he presents long experience on the design of Pharmacoepidemiological studies. His fields of expertise include: Pharmacoepidemiology, Epidemiology, Nutritional Epidemiology, Public Health, Hygiene, Natural occurring Products with potential biological activities. He has been involved in many research projects either as Member of the Coordination Team or as a Researcher in both European and National Programs. He is a co-author or author of correspondence in over 90 PubMed-indexed and Scopus-indexed papers and more than 200 studies presented in National and International Conferences. Dr Athanasios Tselemponis. He has been a Laboratorial and Educational stuff of the Laboratory of Hygiene and Environmental Protection at the Medical School of Democritus University of Thrace in Alexandroupolis since July 2014. He has graduated from the Department of Medical Laboratories, Technological and Educational Institute of Thessaly. He completed his postgraduate studies in the program of “Postgraduate Studies Health and Safety in Workplace” entitled “Environmental microbial load in Intensive Care Units and the role of workers in its horizontal transmission” at the Medical School of Democritus University of Thrace in 2012. In the same Department and under the supervision of Professor Theodoros Konstantinidis, he completed his PhD studies entitled: “Colonization of multidrug resistant strain in hospital settings and the role of hospital personnel in horizontal transmission” in 2016. He teaches Medical School students both at undergraduate and at post-graduate level. He is responsible for microbiological analyses of water and food and biochemical identifications of microbes at the
Laboratory of Hygiene and Environmental Protection at the Medical School of Democritus University of Thrace. He has been involved in many research projects of the Laboratory of Hygiene and Environmental Protection at the Medical School of Democritus University of Thrace, as technically responsible by ESYD for the microbiological and chemical analyzes carried out on the basis of the standard ELOT EN ISO / IEC 17025: 2005. His fields of expertise include: Epidemiology, Public health, Hygiene and Εnvironmental Μicrobiology. Dr Maria Venetia Apostolopoulou is Laboratorial and Educational Stuff. She holds a PhD degree in Doctor of Sciences from Chemistry Department (Faculty of Science), a master’s degree in Ecological Marine Management from Biology Department (Faculty of Science), and a Postgraduate Diploma in Human Ecology from Human Ecology Department (Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy), Vrije Universiteit Brussel. Moreover, she holds a master’s degree in Sustainable Development from Home Economics and Ecology Department of Harokopio University. Her main degree is in Home Economics and Ecology, Harokopio University. As former instructor in secondary education, she has nominated as Deputy Head of Environmental Education Center of Naousa (2008-2009), responsible for the operation and management of the East Macedonia and Thrace regional office in Brussels (2006-2008), and Head of Environmental Education Samos (2003-2004). She is the main author of 2 articles in international peer-reviewed journal 8 papers in peer- reviewed conference proceedings and several oral and poster announcements at scientific conferences. Mr Konstantinos Kalentzis is Specialized Technical and Laboratory Staff. He has graduated from the Department of Fisheries and Aquaculture Technology (former Technological and Educational Institute of Western Greece, Mesolongi). He continued his studies in the Department of Forestry Management of the Environment & Natural Resources, Democritus University of Thrace, Orestiada. His MSc is on sustainable producing systems and environment on agriculture. He was member of Agricultural Pharmacology and Ecotoxicology Laboratory, Department of Agricultural Development.
