The Laboratory of Molecular Hematology was established in 1999 (PD 71/99, Government Gazette 87/28-4-1999). It is part of the Department of General Pathology of the Faculty of Medicine at the Democritus University of Thrace (DUTH), under the administrative supervision of the 1st Department of University Internal Medicine.
Today, it constitutes a core translational research unit, equipped with modern analysis systems for molecular/genetic studies, gene expression, and protein expression (real-time RT-PCR, Western Blot, Flow Cytometry, Cell Culture equipment). Simultaneously, it provides advanced diagnostic services across Greece at both genetic and molecular levels.
In accordance with the Laboratory’s operating principles, various scientific and research working groups, comprising both internal and external collaborators, may operate within its facilities. These groups function autonomously while maintaining a spirit of mutual cooperation and complementarity. Their objective is the application of molecular biology and immunology for the resolution of clinical diagnostic problems, as well as for applied and/or basic research. Furthermore, the Laboratory actively participates in the undergraduate and postgraduate education programs of the Democritus University of Thrace.
“Currently, the Inflammation Research Group is actively conducting research within the Laboratory.”
