Quality Policy of the Undergraduate Studies Program

1.STATEMENT OF POLITICAL QUALITY OF THE DEPARTMENT OF MEDICINE OF THE D.U.TH.

The central goal of the Administration and the entire human resources of the Department of Medicine of Democritus University of Thrace is the commitment to the quality of the educational services provided and their continuous improvement. The consolidation of curriculum evaluation and control systems allows the maintenance of high-quality education. The investment in the high level of teachers and logistical infrastructure contributes to the development vision of the Department of Medicine which is fully compatible with the vision of the Management of the Democritus University of Thrace. The Quality Policy of the Undergraduate Studies Program at the Department of Medicine of the Democritus University of Thrace is consistent with the quality policy of the Foundation.

Quality assurance is achieved by clearly defining the objectives of the curriculum and defining the Department’s strategy following internal quality assurance procedures. The policy for Quality Assurance and its implementation strategy is supervised by the Quality Assurance Unit (QA) of the DPTH based on Law 4009/2011. Quality policy focuses on:

(a) in academic physiognomy and curriculum orientation,

(b) the learning outcomes and qualifications pursued in accordance with the National higher education qualifications framework

(c) the structure and organization of the curriculum,

(d) the quality and effectiveness of the teaching work, as documented in particular by the evaluation by the students,

(e) the establishment of clear and defined objectives to ensure and continuously improve the quality of the institution’s curricula and support services,

(f) the policy planning process, effective organization and decision-making process for continuous quality improvement,

(g) the process of implementing the policy for continuous quality improvement,

(h) the documented improvement in quality.

2.DEFINITION OF OBJECTIVES

The Quality Assurance Policy of the Department of Medicine of the Democritus University of Thrace, with the commitment of the President and the Administrative Bodies as well as the other staff of the Department, is determined by the following objectives, connecting the desired educational results with the Strategy and the vision of the Foundation:

1. The continuous reformation and improvement of the School’s studies program.
2. Adherence to the needs of students and the improvement of teaching tools.
3. Improving the performance of education by reducing students who drop out or delay the completion of their studies.
4. The development of the educational and research logistical infrastructure.
5. The strengthening of research and innovation and the interconnection of the Department with other Institutions in Greece or abroad.
6. The visibility of the educational clinical and research project.

3.MEANS OF IMPLEMENTING AND MONITORING THE OBJECTIVES

The Department of Medicine of the Democritus University of Thrace through the actions of the Quality Assurance Unit and the bodies of the Department, has established a series of institutions and actions through which the implementation of the objectives is achieved, the continuous monitoring of the progress of their achievement and their review.

1. The establishment of a curriculum committee.
2. The establishment of an Education Office with an executive role in the organization and monitoring of the implementation of the Curriculum.
3. The implementation of an electronic evaluation system for courses and teachers.
4. Informing students from the day of their registration about the program of study and in general about a number of issues of academic life.
5. The recording of the number of active and inactive students annually
6. The implementation of the institution of the academic advisor.
7. Establishment of the Award for Outstanding Teaching of the Democritus University of Thrace.
8. The establishment of Postgraduate programs of the Department and the assurance of synergies through Interdepartmental Postgraduate programs.
9. Conduct research and record graduates’ professional careers.
10. Recording of research results and their dissemination (research papers, books, bibliographic references).

4.COMMUNICATION OF THE QUALITY POLICY AND THE RESULTS OF ITS IMPLEMENTATION

The implementation of the quality policy as approved by the Administration of the Democritus University of Thrace through the Quality Assurance and Accreditation Unit in application of the instructions of the Hellenic Quality Assurance & Accreditation Authority in Higher Education (ADIP) is posted on the website of the Department of Medicine of the Democritus University of Thrace (https://med.duth.gr). The results of the internal and external evaluation of the Department of Medicine are available on the page https://med.duth.gr  with parallel registration of the required information and data in the Integrated National Quality Information System (PEPSP) of the HQA.

The commitment of the Department of Medicine and the Democritus University of Thrace to quality assurance with the continuous support and supervision of the Quality Assurance Unit guarantees the improvement of the services provided by the Department through the Undergraduate Program.
