The First Department of Internal Medicine is directly linked to the Laboratory of Molecular Hematology, a fully equipped Translational Research Laboratory based on Molecular Biology and protein analysis methods. The Laboratory hosts research groups that are independent in their research and scientific scope. The funding for its equipment and consumables is primarily provided by research programs led by the group leaders and other clinic members, as well as through fixed asset support from the Hospital. The researchers—including Faculty members, Special Technical Laboratory Staff (ETEP), and postdoctoral researchers—maintain a salaried scientific relationship with a proven track record in research and diagnostics. At the clinical level, the laboratory’s experimental results support the First Department of Internal Medicine across a wide range of Internal Medicine conditions. Moreover, the Laboratory is part of an extensive international network of peer laboratories and units, aiming for a more comprehensive study of an increasing volume of human diseases, thereby contributing effectively to the completion of doctoral theses and the training of postgraduate doctors, biologists, and technologists in cutting-edge technologies.
