The purpose of the Laboratory is the study of the Physiology of the human reproductive system and research in the field of Assisted Reproduction. Also, hands-on training in subjects related to Assisted Reproduction techniques.
The laboratory has facilities and equipment that can support oocyte retrieval, intracytoplasmic sperm injection, cell and embryo cultures, sperm processing and sperm diagnostic techniques.
Research
Currently, the ongoing research concerns:
– study of factors that determine the positive outcome of intra-uterine insemination cycles
– study of incomplete protamination and fragmentation of sperm nuclear DNA
– effect of age on parameters of basic sperm analysis
– study of factors that cause in-vitro immobility in human spermatozoa without affecting their vitality
